Have had a Halifax fixed rate mortgage for just over a year and they have been fine. All payments made on time etc - am just changing job - earn about £45k per year and new job the same - but asked for a one month payment holiday just to keep my finances healthy and have been refused. It's nuts???!!!!??? Asked why and they said some thing about index rate - checking current value of property compared to something - and said as property prices have dropped they couldn't do it. Am now confused - it's not going to kill me to make the payment but if I was in a more unfortunate position this would be a lewdicroius answer. Rather than a months holiday they would happily let someone default. Nuts. Unhelpful & very disappointed :(
