Booked a VW Golf (or similar) for a week from Atlaschoice a month before a week-long holiday in France, and I paid in full (187). On arrival at the airport, their partner "ADA" had now record of the booking, and no hire cars at all available. Neither did any of the other hire car firms at the airport. We were completely stranded.

To cut a long story short, we had to rely on a family member collecting us (a 3 hour round trip) and then had no hire car for our entire holiday, which completely ruined it for us.

To put the icing on the cake, almost a month later I'm still waiting for my money back (plus compensation for all the phonecalls, hours stranded in the airport with my wife and young kids etc etc). Their customer service is absolutely pathetic.
