Today I went to my local Currys superstore to purchase an LCD TV. I wanted to buy it on credit. Before actually beginning the credit application the sales guy offered me an insurance at extra cost in case I had a problem. I told him I didn't want it. He then told me that if I didn't take it and it went wrong, I'd have to bring it back and a repair would be 28 days. I told him I still didn't want it so we moved onto the credit application and all was well until he asked where I worked. I told him I was retired, but he told me he needed to know the postcode and address of my former employer. I told him I'd been retired 12 YEARS and couldn't remember the post code, but he told me he had to know. I asked him what this had to do with a credit check - he didn't seem to know but stated it was company "protocol". I duly told him to keep his TV and went to Comet and got one with the minimum of fuss and without the intrusive questioning. I understand the need for credit checking - but NOT FROM 12 YEARS AGO !!!! Why do they want this information? I won't be using Currys again.
