try to take the kids - now teenage boys to Alton Towers- every couple of years. This time round we stayed in a nearby travel lodge as couldn't afford the theme park hotel. We live in london, so its a fair way to travel.
We have merlin passes so can't comment on the entrance price - but disappointed to pay £5 car parking and food is expensive - and not particuarly inviting or tasty.
My kids enjoyed the rides and managed to get on most once,due to arriving early and getting on the bigger rides first.They probably would have liked to have done some again but the queues were just massive.
The biggest problem we have found this year,are the wasps.Yes,it summer and wasps seem to be on the increase everywhere - but it really is WASP CITY - not good when my youngest son is terrified of them - and ended up getting stung.
You just cannot escape them - they are everywhere - and its not enjoyable, particularly when eating or queuing. My hubby would have like a coffee and a sit in the normally enjoyable gardens before the long ride home - but you just couldn't stay in one place before you hounded by wasps.
