We have enjoyed at least 6 Thomson Cruises over the last few years cruising on the Emerald, Calypso, Celebration, Topaz, so we thought we would try The Island Escape which is now owned by Thomson, but our cabin was definitely not up to Thomson standards. We paid extra for an upgrade to premier cabin which was a good size, twin beds, plenty of drawers and wardrobes, dressing table, chair, coffee table and large window (view was obstructed, but we had been advised of this and it wasn't a problem). Bedding was changed every day and was nice and clean. Bathroom wasn't so good. It smelt of bad drains. We told cabin steward about this and she did put bleach down, but the smell soon came back. The simulated tiled flooring looked as though it needed a good scrubbing. The door jamb was engrained with a few months dirt. Sealant around floor, shower and washbasin was dirty and some was missing. Plenty of toiletries were supplied. Towels were changed twice a day, but everyday, apart from one, they were dirty grey and quite often had really dirty marks on them. Cabin was very noisy as were very close to main air conditioning unit. We did complain about the noise when we arrived and we were offered another cabin 24 hours later, but although it was quieter, we turned it down as it was less than half the size of the cabin we had booked. The rest of the ship was fine. The food and entertainment was very good. The staff were excellent. We would have enjoyed the cruise much more had the cabin been up to scratch. We wouldn't recommend the ship nor would we sail on it again. I hope the new Thomson Dream lives up to the Thomson standards.
