I have the metal bodied version of the daisy model 188 pistol. I like the heavy feel and the parts don't wear out like they would on a plastic model. I strictly use it with bb's. and in the 25+ years I've owned it I've never shot any small animals with it. I use it on dogs and cats that come around messing with my pets. It's just strong enough to give a good sting and leave a little welt. I used it on myself before shooting an animal with it.

I've considered taking it apart and making it stronger but I'm afraid I may damage it and render it inoperable.

It's a good starter gun for a kid because it won't hurt anyone and does little damage if shot at non target items. I prefer using it on paper targets shot into a heavy cardboard box (Good for indoor range) Make sure there are not TV's or Monitors in the room!

Note: If you make a cardboard box target, add a top slanted out backer cardboard inside the box to deflect the BBS into the box for easy recovery.
