Natwest Student accounts are a pickle. I have found that the online banking is a dream to use, and they have all kinds of nifty features like texting you your balance once a week and letting you know when your funds are up or down to your specified amount. It also has the option of paperless statements, which is nice when you are back and forth between home and uni, and moving between halls and student housing.

HOWEVER!!!

Their main draw for natwest is their railcard, and they make that the most annoying pain in the you know what to get your hands on. Mine took me 3 months of going into the bank (accross from my uni) to prove I'm a student, being assured that my student card was being faxed to the mysterious rail card office in the sky, and then calling this magical place later that day to see if the fax came through, to find they had no idea what I was talking about, and had received nothing. I did this 5 or 6 times, getting to the point of waiting in the bank for the staff behind the counter to send the fax, and then calling to assure it got there, and still having nothing show up. Anyway, eventually it came.

GUESS WHAT?


This year, (my 2nd year) after my card expired, I never got a new one. I've called to enquire after it, and they told me that I was rejected by the issuer because either they doubted my status as a student or they suspected I wasn't using Natwest as my primary bank account, they couldnt tell me which. I'm still waiting on the result of this drama, but seriously, so so so annoying. For the hassle and aggro I should be banking with another bank, and if they don't get this sorted in the next few days, I will be.
