I've been with Direct Line for 4 years, first with a VW golf then a renault scenic. When I switched to them I had 8 years no claims bonus which help me quote no end. After 1 year I added my wife as a named driver on the Scenic and she subsequently had a bump in town. We claimed under her name for the knock and this was sorted out quickly. I Recently called them to get a 2nd quote for my wife on a new car for her and found the 'no claims' she had collected, wasn't transferable to another quote with them, meaning it was a meaningless gimmick to get more drivers insured. I then found out, my protected no claims bonus which was over 9 years had been knocked down to 3 years due to the knock my wife had 2 years ago, being told that the maximum i could have was 5 years and that it wasn't protected and had a 2 year penalty imposed. Absolutely shocked by this and when my renewal comes round i will be cancelling with them.
