I rate Alton Towers suitable for adults simply because neither myself or my girlfriend used any of the children's areas, so unable to comment.

Overall it was a fun day out, and we managed to get on all the rides we wanted, some of them more than once. The rides were all great fun, so for a thrill and excitement you can't really beat it.

It's easier to criticise than praise, so I will. But rest assured, it is still a fun day out if you plan accordingly and do some forward thinking.

Problems:

Queues: The park is pretty well known for them, and can be over and hour on popular rides, and even a bit too long for basic things like getting food. there are options available to purchase queue jumping tickets, which I would recommend despite the expense.

Presentation: As I understand it the park is due to have some changes done to certain areas, but even so, many areas lack general maintenance and polish. Overgrown plants, themed areas not matching the theme. Basically the sort of things that can be solved with some paint and a bit of general maintaining.

The Gardens: What can I say, they're a mess. Yes most people go for the rides, but some people do enjoy the walk through the gardens. The problem is they are poorly maintained at best, it would have been nice to see them properly presented.

Parking: They've charged me £30 to get in, they want another £5 parking?

Maps: They were useless for anything more than finding a general direction to head in. Pathways and rides aren't detailed well enough to get a good idea of which path to take when.

A few tips for the day:

-Despite the cost, get fast-track tickets, they save so much time.
-Go on a quieter day if you want to reduce queues.
-Head for the popular rides first, you should avoid the queues, and if you have a fast-track, you can use it on the same ride later on.
-Arrive early, again it reduces queue time.
-Pre-booked tickets are cheaper.
-On a hot day, the £6 drink with free refills is a good idea.
