We have rented with the Hertz Cambridge branch on 5 occasions during the summer of 2009, as they offered the best price for weekend rentals & are in the most convenient location for pick-up. The vehicles have all been rather new and in good condition (the oldest of them a 2008 ford fiesta with 30,000 miles on the clock, and the rest all 2009 models with mileage below 12,000). When requested, the cars have been washed prior to the rental, and often we've been given an upgrade at no extra cost on arrival, as they seem to have more vehicles available in the higher end. Rental conditions and charges are clear, pre and post vehicle inspections were done professionally and quickly, and they addressed our concerns when we pointed out a blown fuse in a car we were given.
On the negative side, they seem to be rather busy on Saturday mornings, and on a couple of occasions we've had to wait up to forty minutes to take the car, which can be a problem when you're trying beat the weekend rush (they only open from 9am).
