Butlins, Skegness, what an experience! Grandchildren loved it, at 6 and 7 years old it was exciting and fun. As grandparents we loathed it, good manners, civility, humour, everything that used to typify the great British way of life, gone and never more evident than here. Saw one show, Looney Tunes, which was ticket only, so managed to get 4 tickets. Not a chance of getting into Reds or Centre Stage. People queued for 4 hours and then others push in. Do not go thinking you will see any of the Britains got Talent or X factor stars as the majority have no chance of getting in. Very disapointing for lots of children. Butlins must have crammed thousands into their accomodation, plus the subway under the main road led to fields and fields of caravans and tents. Nothing was policed, so there could have been many more people there than should have been. Perhaps they should introduce the wrist band system. There was a small chance of seeing what was happening in the Skyline Pavilion, but on Saturday evening it was over by 8.30pm, felt very cheated. The silver apartments were ok, quite well equiped, everything stained and sticky, with a fair bit of dust thrown in. Clean but holey bedding, lots of hot water but shower dripping constantly, lovely neighbours, we could hear every word they said. Just what we expected really, so will not be returning to Skegness, may try Minehead again next year as that was much more civilised last year.
