We booked a 'Platinum' holiday to Crete - Rythymna Beach hotel (a 5-star hotel); very pricey, so we expected good service from Thomson. Were slightly puzzled as 'Platinum' is supposed to provide pre-booked plane seats, to receive a 'hard' sales call a week before departure requesting payment (£12 each) to pre-book seats together - we refused and got great seats anyway. When staying at 3 & 4 star hotels we've always been greeted with a chilled bottle of water on the coach ride, but got nothing this time (despite a 30 min wait at the airport before the coach even departed and 11/4 hours drive to the hotel). No welcome drink at hotel either. We chose the hotel because it offered a 'teenage club' - this didn't exist even though we travelled in peak season (July 2009). The rep who only deals with this hotel was generally unhelpful, only there to sell overpriced trips - any question was answered with 'ask at reception - not my problem' - including an invitation we received to cocktails for 'Thomson guests' (the date for this was 3 days after our return to England)! again - 'management deals with that; not my problem', so we missed out. Apart from there being no teenage club which the brochure clearly advertised, these are all fairly minor complaints and actually we had a good holiday - clean hotel, great food, birthday cake for my daughter's 17th. My gripe is paying 'Thomson platinum' when the service provided was virtually non-existent. I tried to leave a holiday review (less critical than this and with lots of positive things as well) on the Thomson holiday review website which claims to have 'honest reviews from customers' - it wasn't been published!!
