my cat died recently and although i have no complaints about customer service i was disgusted to find out that i did not actually take out pet insurance i took out a loan.this fact is conveniently hidden in their rules and regulations.the brochure in front of me says PET insurance and makes no mention of having to pay the full years premium in the event of death.have m&s never heard of insurable interest which states you can only insure something you actually own or have some form of interest in.a dead cat no longer exists so no insurable interest is now involved.i wonder if this rule applies to their life cover so if you take out say 10 years cover and die after 2 years do you get paid out minus 8 years payments.i would never recommend this company to any one.jimbo

I understand the problem here and hopefuly after reading the reviews pet owners will leave M&S out in the cold.
This is what happened to us.
Our pet dog Shadow had been insured only for a few years and was 14 this year.
I would like to warn against M&S insurance - which they said was for life. Our premium went up from £16 to £35 a month this year and on top of the excess we had to pay 35% of the claim all this because she was 1 year older. Our dog was 14 this year so it would be difficult to go elsewhere. Unfortunately she got very poorly and had to be put to sleep last month and when we received the cheque they deducted 7 months premium from the payment as they said we had seven months to run on the policy, so they make you carry on paying the insurance when your pet is dead. I rang to question this but they said it was in the small print. Saying they only deducted it because we had made a claim and the policy was cancelled with her death. At a time when the family is devastated by the loss of their pet, this company know how to cash in on people wanting to do their best for their pet. I asked who would think of adding this clause to a policy that made you pay the full year's premium even after your pet was dead but was told I should have read the policy properly. Please think twice before choosing M&S
