Good Points

Power, acceleration, value, handling (dry), looks.

Bad Points

Handling (wet), insurance costs, lack of understanding from Toyota dealerships on the imported Turbo.

General Comments

The Toyota MR2 is a complete monster. I got my '94 turbo in standard 240bhp form and it hit 60 in 5secs, and I had 163mph out of it. I've since added a HKS induction kit, better exhaust, dump valve and a superchip which has upped the bhp to 270. Completely mental acceleration and terrific handling in the dry. Fuel consumption isn't bad for a car with this power, although it does drink oil. Just watch it in the wet and be wary of Toyota dealerships because they're useless when it comes to the MR2 Turbo!

    I really want a rev 3 mr2 turbo.
how many miles per gallon can i expect from one of these little beuts?
anything i should look out for when buying one, what about high mileage?

I totally agree. I owned an almost stock rev.2 (220 bhp) for a few years, and I was absolutely amazed at the performance. I'm not great at launching, but I'd consistently hit 60 from a standstill in 5.6 seconds, and it pulled like a train up to 145 (by which time I backed off as I was running out of road).
Dry handling is nothing short of astonishing- even with rubbish tyres, 17's and sub-standard bhp (it was a bit poorly at the time) I managed to stay right up the backside of a 225 bhp Audi TT whilst racing along some very twisty country roads one night.
If you're after a lot of bang for your buck, and want typical Japanese bullet-proof reliability, this the car for you.
