When I tried to re-new my tax disc on line I discovered to my horror that my car had no insurance despite the fact that I had an insurance certificate. When I phoned Saga I was told that the policy had been cancelled 3 months earlier and car was not insured. The policy had been cancelled automatically as payment had not 'gone through'. I then phoned my Visa Card provider who were able to confirm that payment had never been requested. Saga said they could re-instate policy but this could take at least 24 hours. About 28 hours later policy was re-instated at same price. I complained that I should not be paying for 3 months insurance I had not received and was offered the paltry sum of £10 as compensation.
So BEWARE if you are paying annually by continuous credit card, make sure you check that payment has gone through. I am appalled to think that I was driving without insurance for 3 months and could have been un-insured for a year if I had re-newed tax discs at the post office.
