Yest more trouble with them of late. Last year, they forgot to order me a replacement debit card when my old one expired, so i was stranded without one. This year, I called them up 3 weeks in advance to make sure that my new replacement debit card would arrive with me by 30th June when I would be on holiday in New York - last thing I wanted was to be stranded with no debit card.

Needless to say, my replacement debit card did not arrive on time, despite Smile being asked 3 weeks before to provide me with a new one. To make matters worse, when I notified them that my replacement card had not arrived before I left for New York, they made a mistake and also cancelled my current debit card - so I was stuck in New York for 2 weeks with no way to withdraw cash.

To make matters even worse, Smile have introduced a new system whereby, to make transfers and payments from your account, you need to use a card reader they send you, where you need to insert your debit card and enter the PIN. Smile evntually sent me a replacement debit card, but then took a further 4 weeks to send me a PIN number for it. So, all in all, it took them over 7 weeks to send me a replacement debit card with a PIN number. During that time, I had no access to cash machines, could not use my debit card, and also could not transfer money from my SMIle account on their web site. Unfortunately, it's something I've come to expect from them, as I described in my previous review. They are absolutely incapable of doing basic things right.

If you want a bank where you'll get someone 'nice' in a call centre to speak to, this is the bank for you. If you want a bank that does the basic things right so you don't actually have to ring the call centre to start with, then don't go anywhere near Smile.
