I first became addicted to Starbucks on a cold wet drive to Whistler in Canada. I never drank tea or coffee until that point but a strong, hot, black mug of Cafe Estima really perked me up and I've relied on it to kick-start my mornings ever since.
My other Starbucks addiction used to be their lovely mozzarella and pesto panini. It was stuffed with gooey cheese, olives and sundried tomatoes. Then suddenly, about 7 months ago (I could probably name the exact date!) they changed the recipe and ruined it. They reduced the amount of cheese, removed the olives and replaced the sundried tomatoes with what is alleged to be roasted tomatoes but tastes like something that came from a tin marked 'Value'. Blatant cost cutting at the expense of taste. Panini rant over.
I'm not the fan of Starbucks I used to be. It's fine for coffee on the run and the service is always excellent for a big chain but the food is way overpriced. I think the coffee (and paninis) are better at Nero's. If only they had one near my office!
One last thing in the defence of my local Starbucks, it is regularly frequented by the Richmond glitterati including the gorgeous star of Cold Feet who i have a massive crush on! Perhaps I'll stick with Starbucks a little longer...
