I used Argus Car Hire/ Cartrawler to hire a car in Faro, Portugal. When checking the car, supplied by Travel Rent, I noticed that one tyre had very little tread left. When I pointed this out I was told it would be ok as long as the weather remained hot! I wasn't happy about this and asked for another staff member - he agreed that the tyre was unsafe and showed me another car, again one tyre was without tread and I got the same response that it would be safe in hot weather. When I asked him if he would put his family in the car he had the nerve to say "No"!! I could not believe he would offer me a car that he did not feel was safe enough to drive his own family in. When I turned this car down I was told that the third car shown to me would be the last so effectively I was forced to take a car which I was not 100% happy with.

When I returned I contact car trawler who immediatley responded to say they would not take responsibility for their suppliers' actions.
By emailing them it did however get my complaint opened again.
I am concerned however about the consequences of a family driving off in a car which has unsafe tyres; nine days on from my complaint car trawler have not had a response from Travel Rent and they suggest that in peak season it is normal not to get a response for a while. Every day that goes by could see more unsafe cars being rented.

I would avoid using Car Trawler, they may be cheap but you cannot put a price on the safety of your family or friends.
