Good Points: Painless porting, Vodaphone coverage, very cheap flat rates, helpful staff, ATM top-up coming soon.

Bad Points: Voicemail isn't free, top-up vouchers sometimes elusive, minumum top-up £10, no customer website yet.

General Comments:

My number was ported over from Virgin within the time stated and I was quickly enjoying cheap texts and the superior Vodafone coverage. (Okay, it's still patchy due to my location but at least I can send a text without putting my boots on). At 4p a text and from 8p a call, ASDA mobile is almost as cheap as it sounds. I say "almost", because voicemail costs a call to pick up (whereas Virgin voicemail is free).

Customer service is friendly, helpful and seems to be UK based. Replies to email queries are generally dealt with within a few hours and the team are polite and informative.

Topping up from your phone is straightforward if you register a credit/debit card. However, my daughter reports problems finding shops that offer ASDA top-ups. It also seems that the minimum "in person" top-up is £10, which is a bit of a shell-out of cash-strapped youngsters. It's not all doom and gloom for out-and-about toppers-up, though; before typing this review, I sent ASDA mobile an email asking about ATM/website top-ups and this is what they said:

"We currently have plans to update our topping up methods and provide the ATM top up service for ASDA Mobile, which is scheduled for August of this year."

On the subject of web top-ups, they said " ....there has been a lot of demand for this from customers so it may be a service we will provide in the near future but there is no timescale for this at present." Fingers crossed for that, then but even without web accounts, ASDA mobile is shaping up to be a pretty good deal.
