I recently took a flight to Perth Western Australia with Malaysian Airlines as I had previously flown with them a few years back and they seemed ok. This time around I found that the aircraft (boeing 747) was looking tired, the in seat entertainment screens were fuzzy and the legroom for tall people (6ft 3in) like me was atrocious.
The food was ok, but then again as it is sourced from outside caters they generally cannot mess that up but on the return flight they were offering chicken and rice or an omelette for breakfast.
Customer services although prompt were not very helpful. I actually tried to upgrade my ticket to a business class ticket as it was on my birthday I flew but I was told on the phone that I could not do this due to my ticket type whatever that meant. I tried again at the airport only to be told I could not do this unless I bought a one way ticket to Perth costing...£3000!! Not surprisingly I declined.
Overall, I got the feeling that I was inconveniencing Malaysian Airlines at every step and so on my next trip I will not be flying with them.
