Alton Towers used to be about fantastic rides and a fun-filled family day out. Unfortunately it now seems to be more about corporate greed. Granted, the rides are still an exceptional and thrilling experience, if they're working and you can get to anything more than three or four of them for the queues and lack of good signage. The very high price at the entry gate only gets you on the big rides if you can get to them, although you can pay up to £8 per person per ride to queue jump and upset all the other people who already paid more than enough at the entry gate. One legible sign outside Wonka's factory says you will be ejected from the park for queue jumping, but apparently it's OK if you pay to do it! You pay restaurant prices for cafe quality food, luxury coffee house prices for instant coffee and lunch out prices for a box of doughnuts. Some parts of the park have been allowed to become tired looking, but my parting memory is being extorted one last time for a further five pounds to get my car out of their astronomical car park to drive home.
