My husband and I customers of HSBC for 28 years. About four years ago I decided to open up my own current account at the different bank where my wages would go in. Unfortunately I chose Halifax. They charged me numerous times £35 for every item I went overdrawn with plus £28 for unauthorised overdraft (once overdrawn at £1.34, the other time £0.84 and £8.82). They would take away overdraft facility away without informing me. I always had an ISA with them and a regular saver. Today I tried to close my savings account and even that is not that simple.
Customer service is appalling, ranging from staff in the branch to people on the phone.
I wish somebody has said to me to stay clear of Halifax. I am closing my accounts with them and going back to HSBC.
