We spent two weeks in the Dordogne region of France recently. We hired the car from Alamo in Limoges because they had a car that could carry the 6 of us and they were open Saturday afternoon when we were scheduled to arrive by train from Paris. Limoges is not very close to where we were staying, but they were the closest who could get us a big car on Sat afternoon. I made the reservation well in advance and received a confirmation from Alamo. About a week before our trip, I called to double check the reservation. Alamo in the United States (800 number) stated that the Limoges office was now closed on Saturday afternoons. They transferred me to an English-speaking Alamo/National representative in France. She confirmed that the hours had changed, but said there was nothing she could do about it and that I would need to call the Limoges office directly.

After making a couple of toll calls to Limoges, I was told that they normally don't even have cars big enough for 6 people. By the time we fly to Paris, we still weren't sure we could get a car. Apparently, the national office had never confirmed with the Limoges office that they could get the car I reserved. Just before our train ride to Limoges, the local office was able to get a car (Citroen Grand C4) transferred to them and arranged to have somebody meet me at the Limoges Gare office.

Everything worked out well in the end. The people at the local office were very helpful. The car was nearly new and worked well for 4 adults and 2 kids. I'm still annoyed that Alamo/National chose to change the hours that this office was open and didn't bother to tell me. I also had the additional expense of long distance phone calls to France (why couldn't Alamo in the US fix the arrangements for me?).
