DO NOT BUY THIS AS AN EASY FIX TO TEXTURED CEILINGS - IT IS NOT AN EASY FIX.

IT IS TIME CONSUMING, THE ROLLER THAT YOU BUY IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE JOB AND YOU WILL INEVITABLY NEED MORE THAN ONE TUB AS IT WILL NOT COVER UP TEXTURED CEILINGS THAT HAVE TEXTURES DEEPER THAN 1MM.

Before I continue, I would like to justify my rant by stating that i have been an electrician for eight years and can plaster channelled walls to a high standard using undercoat and finishing plaster.

So I put my cynicism to one side and purchased "Polycell SmoothOver Textured Walls & Ceilings" for ceilings with the overpriced but recommended trowel and roller.

THIS PRODUCT IS JUST A GLUEY POLLYFILLA.

The instructions tell you to dip the roller into the tub and it will pick up the amount you need. It doesnt, it picks up way too much and inevitably drops on the floor like a "99" ice cream.

For my raised, dimpled, pock marked ceiling, it was a painful experience. I dipped my roller, rolled it as it dangled threateningly from the roller. I then sighed as the dimples on the ceiling acted like a rake to the trowel and polycell and inevitably caused lines to appear no matter how gently / firmly i pressed the trowel.

The logic is that I will have to trowel my 3m x 5m ceiling to lower the depth of the dimples, and then trowel over the first layer of polycel. This will cost me two tubs which equals £60 as my room is 3m x 5m.

I dont want to come across as arrogant, but I am a proficient plasterer and I really had to concentrate to use the trowel to smooth out the lines in the polycel.

Unless you have:

1) used a trowel a lot of times before
2) have a small room
3) have two days to spare
4) want to spend £60 on an unsuitable product

Then DO NOT buy this product.

ps

Dont let the tub persuade you that you can easily sand out any imperfections; sanding down a ceiling - and it will be a whole ceiling - will take an age, a lot of arm strength, and potentially the development of a respitory illness from all the plaster dust!
