We've just returned from a 2 day break at Alton Towers Splash Landings Hotel and theme park and it was brilliant. The park opens to hotel guests at 9am so we beat the 'queues' and managed to get on Air, Nemesis, Oblivion, and Rita twice all before 11am. My 9 year old boy loved every second we were there and went on everything. The park and hotel were extremely clean and tidy and all staff that we came into contact with were polite and helpful. Sharkbay reef is amazing - it's brand new and immaculate. Yes, food and other purchases are a little more expensive, but not amazingly so and at a top attraction what do you really expect? Queues for the big rides are a little long at peak times, but they do continually move so you're not stood in one spot for too long. I would recommend Alton Towers to everyone, but you need to be prepared to spend a little extra on food (or take a packed lunch - there are plenty of beautiful spots to sit), stand in a moving queue for about 45mins at peak times and also stay the whole day to make the most of everything (10am-6pm).
