Thanks to reviewers below - The best advice I saw: It's not the switch! Change the batteries!
Dead batteries don't "look" the same with LED's as they do with plain old flashlights. Once your batteries get drained pretty low, they might have just barely enough voltage to get the LED to light - and then voltage drops, and the LED goes out. It's intermittent because with no load, your battery picks up just a little bit of voltage again, and the LED fires again, voltage drops again, the LED goes back out.
Change the batteries - don't worry about the switch!
