We hired an avis car at Barcelona Airport. Staff was extremely rude and impolite and car we got was not cleaned properly - windows were smudgy and mirrors were unusable so I had to pull over to clean the windows and mirrors in order to be able to drive at all. On a car return same staff rudeness, but at least the car I returned was covered in seagull's feces (not my fault they have a lot of seagulls on Costa Brava) so I certainly hope cleaning guy had a big deal to clean them all off. Not to mention charging Eur 250 for additional insurance after confirming initial insurance covers everything.

My advice to anyone considering Avis - don't. Simply don't.

Btw, when you are on Barcelona Airport where car rental offices are, you can easily notice others are crowded while Avis is like a ghost-town. Easily understandable.
