I first came across this novel years ago while working at a Waldenbooks. An ARC came in about six months before publication and I though it looked interesting.
I was sucked in to the tale immediately. Subterranean is the story of a secret civilization deep under the Antarctic, strange creatures, action aplenty, hints of a romance between two leads, the perfect mix for one of those summer films. Maybe not at the level of the blockbusters, but certainly worth the effort and cost.
I was astounded that it was a first novel(I didn't know at the time he also wrote fantasies under the name Clemens, but certainly the first thriller).
To my everlasting regret, I let that ARC get away from me. Others in the store wanted to read it and I put in a request for it when they were done. I never saw it again.
