I wish I have read those reviews before I took Swinton Car Insurance.
I have had a death incident in my family which has made me to book a flight immediately and forgot about my bank balance and when I came back I found a letter from Swinton saying that my Direct Debit has bounced and they are charging me an extra £12 in addition of the normal monthly instalments.
I phoned them right away and arranged an immediate payment by credit card and explained that my father died in a sudden and we all went panicky and had to fly to his funeral. The guy from Swinton promised to write off the £12 charge. The next month that never happened so they took the extra charge of £12 out of my bank.
That wasn't the only thing they did; they auto renew my insurance without telling me so they took another Direct Debit payment for the next year car insurance policy.
I couldn't believe that, so I phoned them. They said I have agreed about that in the previous policy which never happened.
I am still having problem with them because I don't want to have the new policy with them (which will start after 3 week from now on the 09/08/2009). They say there will be a charge of £20 if I want to cancel my next (future) policy.
