When brand new, the VAX Big Bubble was great. However, you soon realise that the suction falls off very markedly (even with a new paper cone filter fitted) when the cylinder is even one third full so you have to make sure you empty it regularly. It's a pretty heavy machine to get around and it doesn't roll particularly well. Nice long power lead. Incredibly noisy machine, you should wear ear defenders when using in small space: However that applies to many vac cleaners I'm afraid.

The carpet cleaning function is not overly well thought out on this one. In order to get the revolving carpet brushes in close contact with the floor, the handle has to be lowered a little. The lower the handle, the more floor-brush contact. Obviously this meant that the designers had to take a view as to the average height of the user. As everyone in our family is quite tall (shortest person at our house is 5'8") this means that we have to push the machine along slightly stooped to get the right amount of brush to carpet contact. This gets quite uncomfortable after a while.

Our Big Bubble has lasted about 3 years, and replaced a truly awful Dyson machine. I've replaced the filter on this Vax 3 times, the drive belt for the rotating carpet brushes twice. Now is making a "hot motor" smell and due VAXs not-so-reasonable spare parts prices it's going to be cheaper to get a replacement. I'm looking at a Henry at the moment.
