Rather like a previous reviewer I fell victim to Auto renewal. With around a week remaining on my insurance ( £250) I sold the car. The reminder came as I was expecting but apart from noticing the renewal fee had increased by £100 I did nothing, I no longer needed insurance. Never the less shortly after the certificate arrived and the money was taken from my account.

I telephoned to inquire and was informed that auto renewal was their policy however if I returned the certificate they would refund all but a couple of pounds of the charge. Eleven days after returning the certificate no refund has appeared.

I still do not understand how a company can grant itself authority to take money from someones account. Surely they must have specific positive permission.

I am extremely unhappy with their service and would urge others to proceed with utmost caution should they consider using the post office insurance to insure their car.

hi there, i find it hard to believe people cannot read their renewal letter or documents. i understand you are not happy about the auto renewal, and in a way i dont agree with it, but believe it or not a insurance company have a "duty of care" to auto renewal a policy, it is asked over the phone with your want to auto renewal, and if done on-line, it clearly state on line too. its another case, if you read your documents and it clearly state in their it would auto renewal unless you the customer state otherwise. people always say to me, never heard of auto renewal before, this is rubbish, the majority of the industry are doing it, as it shows in FSA guidelines they have too. unless customer sayd they do not want it. its easy for people to say it the insurer fault, but they aint sending docs out for the good of there health to be fair.
