Bad Points

Close ratio gearbox, I intend to swop gearbox for a Volkswagon Passat estate gearbox for a wider ratio 5th gear and more economy though this will lose a bit of accelration but I don't mind. Wiring loom is a bad design at the drivers door hinge as constant felxing as the door opens keeps fracturing the wires causing faults in the central locking, alarm and electric windows, but as I am an electrician I just resolder the broken wires as they occur. Wires I've repaired haven't been a problem since (not many to go now. Also watch the wiper undertray water deflector seal as this can leak allowing water seepage into the footwell on the passenger side that then flows down under the seat and water damages the ECU and alarm system. The wiper mechanism joints are dry plastic so these need lubricating to prevent wear which can cause the wipers to collide with each other.

General Comments

Bought the 2litre petrol Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDi SE, '96 model, get about 35mpg The most usefull and versatile vehicle I've ever bought. All seats come out for use as a van, then weekends seats go back in for transporting my students on workshops touring sacred sites. Looking to getting the Twin cam 2litre turbo petrol when I can afford it (diesels are expensive to repair). Easy on the steering, drives like a car. Nice and high up to see over country hedgerows (the wife feels like a queen). Spacious and versatile, good alround vision. Economical for a heavy vehicle. Good firm ride, drives like a car. Seats can be put in or taken out individually. Smooth ride comfortable for all day driving, good upright driving position so pedals are easy to use on the knees and legs.
