Good Points

The Egyptologist was wonderful: every inch the pharoah himself! Very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. The trips were fab and never to be forgotten but beware the steps down into the temples will be a challenge to some with any mobility/knee problems... My partner and I calculated that 20% of the guests were gay (openly) and one was extremely funny with the Nubian warrior during an evening show!
Photography opportunities were great, as the light was wonderful - no humidity!

Bad Points

Given number of guests on board I have to say the food was very bland and poor.. Overcooked vegetables and frozen salads (!) and not much imagination. The highlight was when we had an egyptian lunch which was fab and everyone raved about!
Ahem, but 5* ships should have coffee on board!! Only Nescafe sachets on offer at breakfast...not good enough! Filter should be the norm! I was gagging for a coffee by the time I flew home.
You had to buy your own 1ltr water bottles: this was daft at £1.20 a bottle!! This will eat up your dosh and this should be included in the price. Take own teamaking things - and coffeebags - for morning cuppa too!
One thing guaranteed: you'll get the collywobbles, even dysentery if you're unlucky so take packets of Imodium and ginger teabags (thanks Jim!)

General Comments

Our trip was from 8 June 2009 on Royal Viking. A lovely ship and helpful staff! We took the upgrade cabin (worth it) and it was very clean and smart. There were only 50 guests on board, instead of 150 which we were pleased about because otherwise it would have been too crowded and I doubt the dining facilities could have coped with more.
Trip certainly worth doing but have couple of days rest before traveling; you'll be getting up very early!!
Take loads of money c £200 each and Egyptian pounds: about £100 worth too. The trips will chomp into your wallet and the cash points are rarely working... MasterCard fine to pay your bar tab at end of trip: drinks including beer VERY EXPENSIVE!!
