General Comments

Firstly it took me several weeks to find out the status of my claim with Diamond Car Insurance. They hadn't even had any communications from their garage, and then were unable to get through to them. Surely there should be somebody checking on claim status ect? Had I not kept calling in then it is likely I would have been left in the dark from even longer. Secondly, this whole time I was without any transportation because the garage had my car, and the policy states that even if you are using the garage the insurance company is affiliated with you can only get a courteousy car if there are actual repairs being made to your vehicle. Well because there were none (the appraisal had been performed during the first few days the garage had the car, but nobody had communicated the status to me) I was without anything for those weeks. Thirdly, the garage was quoting a repair bill that was three times higher than quotes I had gotten from two independent mechanics beforehand (it was only minor damage). It is still unclear whether or not they were including something in the claim that i had explicilty said had nothing to do with the claim because the information i got from the company was mixed. Such miscommunication between all parties could have been sorted out a lot sooner had someone been keeping an eye on the claim status, and keeping in contact with myself and the garage etc. Fourth, the car was going to be written off because the insurance company said that after I had paid the excess, they wouldn't have to pay as much out and so it was better for them to write the car off. What about what works best for me? I'm a student and can't afford a write-off to take place for their convenience, especially when the total repair cost is not worth more than the value of the car. Finally because I decided to go through the independent mechanics and actually have my little problem fixed (really it's that minor a repair!) rather than lose my car and be unable to by a new one, the insurance company told me that I had to make my own arrangements to fetch my car (which is unroadworthy) from said garage, which cost me evenmore money. Sadly it looks like I would have been better off (financially, transportation-wise, and stress-wise) with going straight to an independent garage in the first place... Never thought making a claim would be such a nightmare and completely contradict the whole notion of having insurance!
