I have been a member on-and-off of all of the major Breakdown Assistance companies (AA, RAC, Green Flag) and I feel I have been lucky that on the odd occasion I have had need of them they have been pretty prompt and efficient. I am currently with the RAC, and have "personal" cover. ie. it is ME that is covered in the event of a breakdown NOT a specified vehicle! This was incredibly useful 3 weeks ago when my son (newly passed his test!) managed to destroy his runabout! Fortunately he was not injured, he called me, I went out to him and saw the state of his car, called the RAC and a specialised breakdown lorry arrived in little more than 30 minutes! There was only one issue I have and that is the vehicle was obviously a complete write off, and because there was no other vehicle involved there were no grounds for an insurance claim, the only options offered by the RAC is to transport the vehicle to a repairers or to home, they are NOT allowed to take the vehicle to a scrapyard or some similar establishment.
All in all I am happy with the service I have received and will continue to pay for the "peace of mind" being a member gives.
