While sucked in by the 0% transfer like many others I hadn't until the recession hit counted on being double charged and facing customer service who say one thing and don't do it. I was double charged (2 x £16) for being over my limit over two months even though I made a one-off payment as soon as I was able in the 2nd month to bring my balance below my limit. Online customer service was responsive and agreed to refund the charge within 5 days. It's over 20 days later now but they haven't as yet refunded the charges they said they were going to. As a result I have been charged again, because having been told to make a one off payment to ensure I didn't go over the limit again, and they not having refunded the charge, now means I have another charge to pay. I am still in dispute with them, it's an ongoing struggle, they may come through in the end but at this point in time, with work being scarce- being overcharged and double charged isn't exactly helping me manage my money or credit rating. So frustrating that these people have a say in my credit rating. I will not have another credit card after this is paid off. I manage my money down to the pennies at the moment so this sort of thing makes life that much more difficult. I am now overlimit again and have been charged AGAIN because they didn't do what they said they were going to do. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my latest plea to customer services will actually be listened to and actioned.
I would also argue that the rate you think you are getting on the Egg credit card does not match up to the rate you pay for cash advances or for purchasing merchandise...the interest is phenomenal. I had to use the card in an emergency and am now paying many times over for it. I guess it's the same situation for most credit cards but it's definitely not been made any easier with their overlimit charge shenanigans.
