I hated Blood Brothers.
Why, because we live in modern times, is it justifiable to most viewers that the amount of bad language in it is deemed to be acceptable for entertainment?
I took my teenage daughter to watch it and felt uncomfortable with her listening to the swearing on stage. I would not have been happy taking a younger child to watch it.
The whole show was very loud, aggressive and depressing in its storyline and not a show I would recommend seeing if you want to come out feeling happy and entertained.
I am not old and past it either, I am in my 40s. I just like the old fashioned ways of yesteryear when a musical was something joyous to watch.

on 30th Jul 2009I agree that all teenagers probably swear, of course! But, it doesn't make it acceptable to have it in theatre in a family musical.

on 31st Aug 2009Did you not read any reviews for Blood Brothers before seeing the show. The content is clear along with the storyline so surely you couldn't be that upset at precisly half a dozen swear words. Also it must be educational in some way if the play is on the national cirriculum for GCSE exams. Teachers bring coach loads of teenagers to see Blood Brothers so it can't be as bad as you thought it was!!

The swearing was not unessescary - it added to the social and cultural context of children in working class Liverpool.
You say you're not past it at 40. Okay your not. But maybe this play doesn't strike the same chord with 40 year olds as 14 year olds. Not all musicals need to be happy happy - is there some unwritten rule saying that they do?thaaiismexox on 19th Oct 2009
OhMyGod. Calm down dear. Blood Brothers is an amazing play both performing and technical wise. So what if it has a little swearing in it? I think your TEENAGE daughter could probably cope with a few naughty words, my drama class and i went to see this for our G.C.S.E coursework, and none of of us, nor the teachers seemed to mind. All the swearing does is make the play seem more realistic, it's what teenagers do. You don't have to be a play critic to see that this play is one of the best acted plays in London right now, and as for "The whole show was very loud, aggressive and depressing in its storyline...", well that is the whole point of the play. It was written in the 80's and was set in 1960's Liverpool during a time of hardship for most of the people who lived there, of course it's going to be depressing! And how can you say it was not entertaining? There must have been something in that play that prompted you to write this review. Love it or hate it, you still have the Blood Brothers obsession :) thank you, that is all :)

I do not agree i think this is a brilliant show, and tell me what teenagers don't swear, we all like to think our children don't but when we are not around they do.
