Good Points

Good facilities and well placed around the south east

Ran has a hard nosed business with little foresight into consquences of their 'by the book' attitude to memberships.


General Comments

I found David Lloyd Gyms entirely geared as a business attempting to make as much money as possible and not generally interested in what the members need or want.

I have been a member with David Lloyd for about 5 years but due to a change in circumstances, I wished to amend the membership. My wife was pregnant and wished to suspend the membership for 12 months. They wouldn't let her unless she had a serious medical condition. Note, I wished to continue my membership at £65 a month.

They also wouldn't let us cancel immediately, despite the '3 month' rule not being in the terms and conditions when I joined. I stopped going to the club out of disgust and ended up paying 4 months membership to cancel, having not visited there once.

Despite talking to several people in the club as well as speaking with their head office, the answer was simply "computer says no".

They have now set the debt collectors on me because I cancelled the direct debit once the three month notice period had expired and they don't appear to have a record of my cancellation. I have left messages with their membership department and await a response.

They've recently introduced a more complicated membership strategy which means you cannot visit any other club apart from your own, unless you pay another £20 a month.
