Good Points

Generally decent quality vehicles. No issues or hassle (with any of the various car-hire companies) on returning cars. Everyone seems to accept that, in Spain, cars do get the odd small dent or scratch and it's not something to worry about.


Bad Points

All operators over-charge for the initial tank of fuel. In addition, they all make extra revenue by insisting on an "empty" fuel tank on return - which, of course, it never is! The exception (generally) is when the hire period is less than 5 days because, even they appreciate that it's very difficult to use much fuel in such a short period.


General Comments

We've used the Carjet booking agency regularly since 2000 because it usually finds us the cheapest price. So far, (touch-wood) we've not had any serious problems with any of the actual car-hire companies - and we've used all of them at Alicante & Murcia (except Avis & Hertz who tend to be more expensive). We've only had to change one car and that was done immediately without any fuss - and, they didn't even bother charging us for the fuel we'd already used. They just gave us another full tank (which wouldn't have happened in "petty" UK). Overall the good points outweigh the bad points. We never have any contact with Carjet, but the firms they use, all seem to know what they're doing. What we can't understand is that there's virtually no availability of compact cars mid June - early July. In addition every hire firm seems to have sharply increased their prices this summer !
