Meat looks ravishing! Crackling was the best ever!
Portion sizes were sufficiently generous.
Tantalising smells and aroma's from the serving area.
Very clean.
The owner plays chef, though does employ a full time professional chef too. He is very welcoming and a great host.
Bad Points
Staff not as "switched on" as the owner.
Initial contact with them was very off putting. They did not seem to enthusiastic to greet and serve us.(perhaps, the owner could afford them some of his professionalism)
Drinks were expensive, and no children concessions, just the full bar price!
Staff again made serving errors, by bringing us deserts, despite us not ordering any!
At £10.50 a head, it is a tad expensive considering its not a star rated hotel equivalent! Again, it would be nice to see family friendly pricing!
General Comments
Arrived at The Red Lion on a busy weekend, wet and hungrey. After been informed that we should have booked first - we waited in the bar area for 15 minutes before the management confirmed that we could be accommodated.
We purchased drinks, were shown to our table and within minutes were called to the carvery serving area. The meats on offer were cooked fresh and looked fantastic. The vegetables were vibrant and colourful, again all cooked freshly. An assortment of sauces and gravy, were too n offer.
