Good Points

Was able to pick it up in the store and start using it that very day, rather than ordering somthing through a tool shop which may take several working days to arrive. For the first 3-4 months of heavy daily use didn't have any engine problems, started with 3-4 tugs of the string time every time.

Bad Points

After a few months of heavy work the fuel tank fell off...on both my machines, it's not actually bolted onto the main body but just wedged in with some rubber spacers to keep it tight. Of course, with havy vibration this works its way loose after a while. so every couple of hours I have to get a hammer out and tap the tank back into a snug fit.

Another thing that fell off one of my engines was the carb system, the two bolts holding it on worked their way loose. Pretty easy to put right again though.

As others have said, re-filling the line isn't as easy as some other models of trimmer, but I wouldn't consider it a big problem, you get into a nack of it after a while.

After much heavy use both engines seem to have lost their grunt, have tried cleaning their carb's and exhausts out but I think they've both become worn out after a season's work.

After much heavy work the hedge cutting attatchment has worked its way loose and spinning round its pole, tightening the nuts has helped, but not solved this....havn't experienced this problem having previously used other models

General Comments

The Ryobi PLT2543Y 25cc Petrol is on the whole, decent value for money. You get what you pay for I guess.

I've owned 2 of these, both had pretty much the same life-span and same faulys. Machines held up well considering i've used them commercially for the past 8 months. Though they're not as well built as some of their competitors, which I guess is why it they're much cheaper than the other's.

No real problems with the grass trimmer attatchement, but hedge cutter won't go through any thick stuff like it's more commercial competitors can. Does a good enough job for trimming finer hedges though. After much heavy work the hedge cutting attatchment has worked its way loose and spinning round its pole, tightening the nuts has helped, but not solved this....havn't experienced this problem having previously used other models
