Good Points

The only good thing about our stay was the fact that there was a television in our room as there was nothing else in the building. There were no other good points.

Bad Points

The family room consisted of one double bed and a sofa that had a single bed that pulled out from underneath. Although the double bed was bearable, my neice woke up with back ache from sleeping on the sofa. Three of us slept in the double bed as the pullout bed was extremely hard, uncomfortable and unbearable to sleep on. There was two pillows between all four of us and only one towel. We also had to ask for more milks and sugars for the drinks in our room.

General Comments

My husband booked us a family room at Travelodge Halkyn. We had read some bad reviews about it but thought it would be bearable for one night. My husband booked by phone and we didnt really know what to expect. When asked "Would you like breakfast?" my husband replied "Yes." On arrival, we were greeted by a pleasant lady in reception. I noticed on the desk there was an advertisement for the breakfast. It consisted of a muesli bar and cereal for £4.50. You also had the choice of tea or coffee but the room came with this already. My family was expecting a cooked breakfast. I asked the receptionist if I could cancel the four breakfasts as I thought it was ridiculous to pay £18 for cereal. The receptionists response was "You can't do that. Everything is locked in." This was ridiculous as nobody had gone through any trouble to cook us breakfast and it was like a childs pack lunch. I asked to speak to the manager and she told us she would send him to our room as he was on the phone. We waited in the room for a while, but we were waiting to go out so we returned to the reception. The receptionist told us that the manager was still on the phone, so we returned to our room again. After a long wait, the manager still didnt turn up at the room so again, we returned to reception. The receptionist told us again that the manager was on the phone. The was agitating and my sister reacted "Well tell him he has guests waiting to see him." The receptionist hurried away and shortly returned with the manager. Personally, I dont think she had told him in the first place. The manager wasnt a bit helpful and didnt believe that we were not told what the breakfast consisted of. He sat on the phone as we waited impatiently. I asked the receptionist "Would you pay £4.50 for that?" She didnt answer me. By this time we were very angry and we asked if we could cancel the room altogether and we would find somewhere else to stay. The manager told us "You can only cancel a room up until 12 o'clock." This was stupid as we weren't allowed in the room until 3 o'clock. After a lot of arguing, it was getting late. We realised that we were never going to get our money back so we decided to stay as it was only for one night. The manager was a bag of nerves and I think if he couldnt handle a simple situation like ours, he shouldnt be manager. He should have used his initiative instead of wasting our time trying to get through to head office.
