Good Points

The rep was very friendly and entertaining, organising a meeting for the guests on our second day to book up trips. Although the hotel was apparently full we found it lovely and quiet, rarely having to share the pool which was good as it isn't very big. The sun terrace area was great to relax in, and although there is no beach access directly from the hotel (rocks below) after a very short walk you get to a great sandy beach which gets very hot so shoes are advised!

Bad Points

We found that some of the trips were very expensive and included hidden extra costs that we weren't initially aware of; on the boat trip to Spinalonga for example we had to pay extra when we arrived to gain access to the island. The nightlife wasn't amazing either, we ventured out one night to find the 'nightclubs' only to find lots of small bars with no-where really to dance, although the British bar men do give away lots of free drinks. As the hotel is just up the road from these bars, with the windows open at night it could be quite noisy, though if you keep them shut and use the air con it is quiet. To get a good night out I would advise going to Malia.

General Comments

My boyfriend and I (both just out of our teens) booked a week at the Matamy Beach Apartments in June last year. We were a bit apprehensive about what to expect as several reviews said it wasn't suitable for the young, and that the manager Costas tended to frown upon young guests. However we found nothing of the sort, the manager was friendly and welcomed us upon arrival even though it was quite late at night when we arrived. The apartment we had was cleaned daily and newly decorated, it was more than big enough for 2 (with a living room/kitchen area, seperate bathroom and bedroom, and balcony overlooking the pool and beach) although a full oven would have been appreciated. There are lots of reasonably priced restaurants to chose from (head out left from the hotel) which have good deals such as free wine with the meal. There is a food shop to the right of the hotel (as you leave) to stock up, though its cheaper if you head further down the road.
