General Comments

I have recently had my car stollen, hence reported to police and my insurance company "Sheilas Wheels"!! They stated they would get back to me once they had heard something/anything about my car, which they did approx 5 days later to tell me it had not yet been found but they offered me a settlement which I reluctantly accepted as was still hoping to get my car back which unfotunately as to date I have not. I received the cheque some four weeks later, but then noticed that the monthly instalment were still coming out of my bank which i enquired about. To add insult to injury after having my car stolen, they told me that I had to pay remainder of monthly instalments to the end of the insurance (this being Oct/Nov 2009) even though I no longer have a car of any kind " as this was their policy" . I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had a similar dealing with this company. I am absolutely furious and totally unsure what I can do!!

Yeah thats right. You need to pay the remainder of the insurance premium. When you take out a contract of insurance you agree to pay 12 months premium and the insurer agree's to pay out in the event of a claim. So as they sent you a cheque for your car, you still need to pay the agreed yearly premium for that year. I had a similar situation so thats why i know the process- i thought it unfair at first but now i understand it

Having had a minor bump Sheilas wheels decided my car was a total loss, so offered me an extremely small settlement figure which i fought them over. Then they decide that i cant have the stereo inner( had left it in as thought car was being returned) and now are trying to deduct money from the settlement figure owing to undisclosed items and issues?????? also to add insult to injury they are expecting me to carry on paying the monthly premium of £28.00 for a car they have sent for salvage!!! its taken them 3 weeks of messing about, me ringing every day for a week and then numerous calls regarding the customer services operatives manner of speaking..... their attitude became abrupt when we queiried things then hey presto all of a sudden the payment is being looked into and they are complaining about "undisclosed issues" and how we are in the wrong!!! the only thing i can see wrong at the moment is the fact i ever took insurance with them in the first place!!! DEFINITELY NEVER AGAIN.

If you had paid for the full amount up front would you expect a refund? When you purchase a car insurance policy you pay for an annual policy, therefore if you claim within the year you have to pay for the full premium. If you had your car stolen in the 1st month of insuring it and for arguments sake your monthly direct debit was only £30 per month - is that what you would expect to pay for the full year to get a payout of the market value of your car?
