Research, obvious enthusiasm for the period and the locations, attractive strong female leads in the two parallel story lines.
Bad Points
It was very difficult to keep track of the two story lines particularly when there was a long gap between the two stories. Many of the names were too similar and caused confusion. I thought it was overlong and needed better editing. There were many loose endsand a bewildering array of characters that did not add much to the story line. Well before the end I had lost interest.the endings of both stories were highly implausible. I rather wished I had borrowed a copy rather than pay nearly £8 for it.
General Comments
As a francophile I found Labryrinth by Kate Mosse very interesting and informative. It brought back memories of a visit many years ago to Carcassonne.People may remember that the town stood in for Nottingham in the film "Robin Hood, Prince of thieves". I was impressed by the detailed research into the historical and geographical background to the story..Last summer I visited Chartres cathedral and walked through the labyrinth not knowing that I would be reading a novel in which it featured. I had not seen it on previous visits to the cathedral but was told that it is only opened to the public on Fridays.
