Poor and ambiguous communication.
Delay in shipment.
I paid for a pair of sunglasses from www.otticanet.com on the 30th of April, 2009 and according to the website their items ship in 1-2 days and take 3-5 days for delivery by fedex. I wrote to them on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 16th (some days multiple times) and finally called on the 18th. On demanding to know the reasons for delay on 8.05.2009 they told me, "we are still waiting your glasses as they are a bit delayed in production".
On 11.05.2009 they wrote, "I confirm you that we will ship your glasses this week. I hope that you can wait to have your glasses."
And I wrote to them at the end of that week, i.e. 14.05.2009 they replied to me with a copy of the same email I got onthe 8th saying "we are still waiting your glasses as they are a bit delayed in production". I was annoyed and replied immediately asking if it was an automated email I was getting to which I got a reply on the 16th saying "Dear ****** thanking you for your patience we are sorry to inform you that we received the sunglasses you ordered but not in perfect condition and as we always want to send them in excellent condition we preferred to order a new pair. The sunglasses will be available for the shipment in some days."
And today I finally called them to find about the status and I was told that they had received the sunglasses but WITHOUT the case from the factory and that they were awaiting the case. They asked me if they could send the original case separately later and I agreed. But this made me suspicious since no good company would deliver glasses without cases (especially when they cost about a US$150). Nevertheless, I agreed to it and I was told that I would receive the tracking detail in a few hours.
I was, at this point -after waiting for 19 days, totally frustrated and asked for an immediate refund. Thankfully they have refunded the $166 I had paid through paypal. I was thinking I would have to open a dispute in paypal but I was, luckily, wrong.
If you look at the replies they sent:
1. They were ambiguous about giving an exact date of shipment.
2. Gave a number of different excuses on various occasions.
3. Delayed in answering the mails (no more than 1 email a day - some times 2).
I hope I am the only one to have such a problem with otticanet. This is just to share my bitter experience with them.
