General Comments
Have been using 1&1 since 2005, I had several problems at the beginning because I was learning by myself.
Now I am quite good with websites and hosting and I can give you a very good advice to deal with 1&1:
Never Never call them, it is a waste of time and money, it seems they have a bunch of student located overseas who are pay $0.5/hour
It is better to send an email to the tech support, they answer usually within 3hours, I just did it yesterday and they solved my issue (without trying to make money on it because it was an email not a paid phone call)
