General Comments

I was originally satisfied with 1and1, until I registered a second domain with them. They decided my previously acceptable user account, which was active for months, needed to be "verified" to prevent internet fraud.

To verify I had to call their 0870 number (with high charges per minute). The first three times I phoned they put me on hold for 10 minutes (after which I hung up!) When I finally got through to a human she took several minutes to eventually tell me that their computer system was down, and that I would have to phone back later in the day. I finally got through to the final stage in order to "verify" my account; the operator asked me for my account number, and my name, then declared my account was verified. Not even a date of birth! My account number and name were on the first line of the email they sent me asking me to phone them - so I don't know exactly what they were verifying....that I have a phone and can read maybe?

Go with 1and1 if you want to pay to be insulted. Or pray you never get summoned to contact their customer services when they get short of cash.
