General Comments

My boyfriend and I booked with DFDS for the Newcastle to Amsterdam minicruise as a short getaway for my boyfriend's 21st birthday. We really enjoyed the cruise, we had a very smooth crossing and the cabin was quite spacious (however we did have a four berth for just the 2 of us!) We paid a little extra for a cabin with a window which is definalty worth the expense, having stayed in an inside cabin previously. The check in at boarding and embarkation in both Newcastle and Amsterdam was excellent; very quick and efficient. We prepaid for meal vouchers which worked out much cheaper than paying for food once onboard, however the first evening we ate in the buffet which we really did not enjoy. The food wasn't very good at all and my boyfriend felt quite ill after eating it (again we do not recomment the buffet breakfast either.) The steak house restaraunt however was very good quality; much nicer food, more attentive waitors and better atmosphere, but be warned it is expensive, but you can use your buffet vouchers towards the cost of the bill if you have pre bought them. We had a steak, salmon, 2 desserts, a bottle of water and 2 alchoholic drinks and the bill was 80 euros!!! The drinks are VERY expensive onboard! A bottle of wine starts around 20 euros; cheapest drinks were probably a bottle of strongbow at 4 euros but you could only get this in the show bar. The entertainment was ok, we watched the dancers in the show bar. The nightclub was shut when we decided to roll into it in the early hours of my boyfriend's birthday which was quite disappointing! and the casino was too small to enjoy! (Just a small room with 2 betting tables!) There was a cinema on the ship which we though a bit expensive also; around 7 euros pp. Amsterdam was brilliant! Especially the sightseeing tour bus! You only get around 4 hours actually in Amsterdam so it would have been better to book a night in a hotel to extend our trip, which you can book with DFDS.
