Bad Points
Don't care about the customer, or any problems. Bad communication and a reluctance to put things right when given lots of chances
General Comments
I used Pennine Home Improvements rather than a larger firm because the salesman told us in our own home that they were a local family business and we would get a quality service! WRONG! He didn't want to know when the problems started even though he promised to sort any if they arose. This firm are only interested in you until they take your money (they don't accept credit cards) now I know why because you are protected with credit card purchases. Their salesman gave us some excuse that their machine is broken!! Once the cheque has
cleared and any problems arise, they don't want to know. They don't communicate with each other and will
very rarely ring you back or email you.
We ordered windows and composite door and we bought a chain and bolt which they didn't bring with them when
they came to fit the windows. We had left them with the salesman in their showroom.
After we placed the order we were told that we now had to choose
another door, as they don't use the catalogue we ordered our door from anymore.
I was concerned that as we lived on a main road right on a bus stop and the main door goes straight into my lounge that the frosting on the glass would be a bit too transparent. I spoke to them and they promised to add a film on the door glass to ensure it would be quite dense. This would be put on the glass BEFORE they put the glass in the door frame. It wasn't done. He promised to do this himself when the glass arrived. He didn't so when they came to do the work there was no film on the glass
and no bolt and chain. The workmen knew nothing about it!
Then follows a whole saga of phone calls, letters, and emails that no one replied to. I then decided to speak to someone else and she promised me the earth and didn't deliver. Every excuse was that they were moving premises! Funny how the
windows were still being sold, fitted and the showroom was still open, salesmen were still visiting prospective clients - yet anything to do with a 'problem' they couldn't deal with it. It was a good enough reason not to return phone calls, emails and respond to letters.
Film was fitted on to the glass on my premises which was not up to standard - simply because it had been fitted AFTER the glass was put in the door. This is something 2 workmen admitted was the problem. They couldn't fit it right because it is meant to be fitted on to the glass before it goes on the door. It looked like a child had fitted it. It bubbled and was rough in certain places making it look very tacky and sub standard. They then had workmen turning up without any film another turned up to take a photo of the glass - but had no film on him. Then they ran out of film at the factory, then there were 2 men of sick! Excuse after excuse followed. More letters, phone calls and emails followed - very few were returned. I finally got their attention when I sent them a letter recorded delivery and gave them 5 weeks to put it right or I would go to the office of fair trading. They then contacted me and arranged another 'glass man' who does not even work for them but for another company. He came to look at it and also admitted it was not a good film to use and he seemed reluctant to use it. He then came back another day, stripped the existing film off with a chemical and offered me some of HIS film at a cost of £40!
People can now see into my lounge if they stand close to the glass. When it is dark and the lights are on, they can see all the way to the back of the lounge room. We have no privacy and the only alternative is to put a curtain on the door, something I am reluctant to do as I didn't pay for an ornate glass door to cover it with a curtain.
They also had a problem when fitting the lounge window frame. Their adhesive wouldn't stick very well so they resolved the problem by hammering a plastic nail to the window frame!! This looks ugly, is the size of a 5p piece and can be seen very clearly in my lounge. What sort of workmanship is this?? Appalling! This word actually describes this company very well. Appalling communication, Appalling customer care, Appalling workmanship, Appalling attitude.
I sent her another email and letter asking them to rectify this problem and she has not replied - surprise surprise. This has now gone on for 8 weeks. I will be putting an official complaint in to the Office of Fair Trading, - Having spoken to them already, they say I have a claim on the 'supply of goods and services act' Use this company at your peril - You have been warned!
